History of Dailyhunt

The history of Dailyhunt goes back to 2007. Virendra Gupta, Co-founder of the startup, started Versé Innovation Pvt Ltd., which operated well for a while but did not eventually succeed. 

Dailyhunt was initially known as Newshunt and was launched in 2009 as a Symbian app by two ex-employees of Nokia. When it was launched in Android in 2011, Virendra Gupta acquired the application. In 2015, the name was changed to Dailyhunt and in that year, the application was considered to be India’s most prominent language dealer of e-books containing 10 languages. Umang Bedi further became the President of Dailyhunt in 2018 and in 2020, he became the co-founder with Virendra Gupta and worked on becoming the most prominent digital media business in the country.

Business Model of Dailyhunt

The most appealing and unique thing about Dailyhunt is that the application provides content in regional languages. The company acts as a news aggregator through Dailyhunt as they have another entity called Greynium Technologies that house news and other platforms that provide content. The Dailyhunt group has a huge base of content providers which include 100K content partners, news content published in 14 different languages by content creators producing 250K news every day.

How does Dailyhunt earn money?

The major source of their revenue is through advertisements and also raised funds through multiple funding rounds. The company also earns money through e-books and magazines as readers have to make payments to read their e-books or magazines. 

Future/Expansion Plans: DailyHunt

The application has been making new records of gaining subscriptions every month. The company plans to expand in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar and Kuwait to begin with in English and Arabic languages. It gradually plans to add local languages such as Farsi and Hebrew.
