Founded in 2018, Skill Lync is an e-learning company which focuses on providing courses for mechanical engineering. Making the appropriate use of technology, the startup equips students with technical skills to help them succeed in their career paths. Currently, the startup teaches more than 25,000 students across India, the Middle East and North Africa, South East Asia, the US, and Europe. After completing the course, the firm provides guidance to students in finding a job. Skill-Lync has a team size of 2,500 members, of which 40 are in tech.

Startup Story of Skill Lync

After Surya completed his post-graduation from the US, he became a teaching assistant in 2012, where he met Sarangarajan, and both of them teamed up to help engineering students get upskilled. After a while, they both managed to get 30 students to train them for 3 months with the skills they had. The founders initially uploaded videos on YouTube and by 2015, they were teaching 300 students in 12 universities through private classes. After that, they quit their jobs and officially launched Skill Lync in 2018.

How does the Skill Lync work

The company offers courses that can be completed in 2-10 months, and students are required to complete at least 20 projects.

Business Model of Skill Lync

The startup offers multiple subscription plans, ranging from 25,000 per month to 35,000 per month for premium offers. It also partnered up with an NBFC (Non-Banking Financial Company) to help students avail loans. From 2020, it also started focusing on providing courses in electrical, computer, and civil engineering. By 2021, the enrollments increased by 3 times and the company reached on international grounds as well. 

Skill-Lync says it has helped over 1,000 engineers with career opportunities by partnering with leading companies such as Renault Nissan, Cyient, Altair, AMTZ, and Expleo, to name a few, for placements. 

Skill Lync Funding

The 1st round of funding took place on March 18, 2019, wherein, Y Combinator invested $150K. This round was called the Pre Seed Round. After a year in August, the 2nd round took place where Y Combinator invested again but the amount has not been disclosed.

The 3rd round took place in August 2021, wherein 6 investors invested their money in Skill Lync, the lead investor being Iron Pillar who invested $17.5M.
